Cable & Wireless is one of the world’s leading international communications companies. It operates through two standalone business units - Europe, Asia & US and International. The Europe, Asia & US business unit provides enterprise and carrier solutions to the largest users of telecoms services across the UK, US, continental Europe and Asia, and wholesale broadband services in the UK.
Recently, Cable & Wireless has launched Voice Transit Evolution (VTE), the new VoIP infrastructure able to expand the C&W portfolio of VoIP interconnect products and provide a strong means to migrate away from the legacy TDM voice network. Within the Cable & Wireless business targets, VTE provides a simple, cost effective solution to network migration, and will provide immediate business benefits to ensure C&W continues to deliver excellent service to its customer.
In 2009 Italtel has been selected by Cable & Wireless to expand Cable & Wireless EAUS’ Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure through Voice Transit Evolution (VTE), a Next Generation Network (NGN) solution. VTE will use an Italtel open softswitch platform and third party Media Gateways to transform Cable & Wireless’ legacy voice network with a new all-IP-Telephony core. VTE provides a cost effective way to expand the capacity of Cable & Wireless’ TDM voice networks to support increasing customer demand. VTE also provides for seamless integration amongst all of Cable & Wireless’ existing and next generation voice platforms. VTE will allow Cable & Wireless to migrate its legacy TDM access switches over to all-IP switches incrementally over time, on an as-needed basis.
In 2005 Italtel was selected by the formerly Cable & Wireless Access as the partner to implement a Next Generation Network. Italtel supplied Bulldog with a iMSS-NGN Class-less solution (Class 4 and Class 5 functionalities) that provides Bulldog with iMSS-NGN Class 4 fixed national services onto a single IP core and serves as iMSS-NGN Class 5 for primary and secondary line for narrowband and broadband, complying to strict UK regulations for combined POTS lifeline and VoIP to the same customers.
The network solution is based on Italtel i-SSW (Italtel Softswitch) and is also used for the interconnection towards other national and long-distance carriers using solutions that could span from local ISUP to native VoIP peering. Italtel was also preferred to provide on the same platform innovative integrated services over broadband through proprietary and third party platforms leveraging the recognized leading skills on systems integration.
