Tellas, the joint venture of PPC SA and the Italian Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA, launched its commercial operation in 2003. This operator was the first to provide the Greek public with innovative fixed telephony services, Internet access services, combined services of fixed telephony and Internet as well as broadband services for all market segments: residential users, professionals, small enterprises and large companies.
At the end of 2005, Tellas has become the largest alternative telecom carrier in Greece. In terms of network infrastructures, with a national optical fibre backbone network of 2.5 Gb/s capacity and with an optical fibre Metropolitan Networks developing in some of the biggest Greek cities, Tellas can today provide its customers with high quality services. In fact, more than 1800 km are already in operation, connecting the main Greek cities and Attica urban areas.
Italtel, already selected by Tellas as Global System Integrator to build the whole IP network based on Cisco products, will provide Tellas with a network solution based on the Italtel NGN (Next – Generation Network) architecture and the Italtel Softswitch (i-SSW) controlling both Access Nodes and CPEs (Customer Premises Equipment). The Italtel solution allows the full interworking with Tellas existing legacy infrastructure for voice services and enables the delivery over an IP network of new enhanced telephony and rich content services for residential and business customers.
Italtel will also supply a Metro Ethernet Network with IP capabilities for advanced traffic management to support both Tellas existing broadband Internet services and the new services managed by the NGN.
Moreover Italtel, already supplying Tellas with Network Management and several Professional Services as Network Planning, Network Design, and Network Implementation, will act as overall System Integrator to seamlessly integrate the NGN and Metro Ethernet solutions into the operator’s network.
