In addition to guaranteeing a global postal service, Poste Italiane Group offers integrated communications, logistic and financial products and service throughout Italy. Poste Italiane is the leading operator in Italy in the postal services area: mail collection and delivery, printed matter and parcels, telegrams, express mail and online services. As part of its plans for the innovation and technological development of customer services, Gruppo Poste Italiane’s main objective is to gradually develop its communications network towards VoIP technology, in terms of infrastructure, services and terminals used in all its regional offices and in more than 14,000 post offices throughout Italy.
To meet this challenge, Poste Italiane has selected Italtel to develop, integrate and install the basic infrastructure for the supply of specific Core Network Services. In particular, Italtel’s services - which provide the allocation and automated distribution of IP addresses for accessing various terminals such as Personal Computers, laptops, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), and VoIP telephones – are just used.
Furthermore, the dynamic services for configuring IP addresses on network terminals (DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), are operational for all interconnected VoIP terminals in Poste Italiane’s communication network area, managed by Italtel’s softswitch (i-SSW) platforms.
Italtel, in its capacity as Poste Italiane’s system technology partner, is the System Integrator as well as Global Integrator of the integrated network services infrastructure implemented in the Data Centres operational in Milan, Rome, Pomezia (near Rome), and Bari. The Italtel solution for Poste Italiane Group can provide more than 300,000 IP addresses.
