VoIP for business customers: Albacom chooses Italtel and Cisco

Italtel and Cisco Systems have been chosen by Albacom to implement a network transformation program to deliver Next-Generation Voice over IP (VoIP) services.

The Italtel - Cisco solution will provide Albacom, the foremost Italian operator specialized in business telecommunications, with the ability to strengthen and innovate its Broadband offering for small and medium sized businesses.

The solution proposed by Italtel, based on the iMSS Softswitch platform with a Class 5 SIP-based configuration and Cisco Systems' Media Gateways and MPLS voice backbone, will be deployed at the core of the Italian operator's network and will help to provide complete interoperability between traditional switched telephony networks and VoIP services.

In addition to the benefits for users, the solution delivers network management advantages through its scalability, reliability and ability to manage high traffic peaks. The proposed solution is the first step towards the future inclusion of convergent services targeted at enterprise customers.

"We are very excited about working with Albacom to increase the value of its network and actively contribute to the expansion of Broadband. - said Vittorio Moscatelli, manager of the Challenger Operators market at Italtel - The transition towards an IP-based unifying technology has become an unstoppable process involving major national and international operators. For quite some time now Italtel has offered VoIP multiservice network infrastructures, and together with Cisco Systems we are now ready to provide additional help to Service Providers with an offering dedicated to the Enterprise sector."
