SCENARIO

A growing concern with wellness and personal care is a key aspect of modern life.

Digital innovation can be a strategic tool to address the major challenges of a healthcare system in tune with the needs and expectations of citizens.

More specifically, digital services can improve satisfaction levels and the relationship with the patient, streamline communication and access to healthcare information and resources, increase the efficiency and quality of procedures.

The healthcare industry is therefore characterized by a growing demand for technologically advanced solutions, from both public and private structures. In ten years’ time the value of the worldwide Digital Health market is expected to be about to 300 billion $. Controlling the growth of healthcare expenditure through a structured implementation of ICT technology in clinical and personal assistance contexts is thus necessary to reduce costs, but also to improve diagnosis accuracy and therapy quality.

BENEFITS

Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT), network-connected medical devices can help track the results of medical therapies and improve the quality of life in general, while paying the necessary attention to privacy and security.
In response to the significant evolution of the communication landscape across multiple kinds of networks and devices, Italtel expanded its vision and strategy to address IoT and Medical challenges. Italtel has recently focused its efforts on healthcare-applied technologies, offering both its valuable skills as a System Integrator to build sustainable, efficient and safe infrastructures for transporting data from the world of things and developing its own e-health solution – DoctorLINK – for continuous assistance.

DoctorLINK enables communication between patients and doctors, streamlining the sharing of audio, video, text and image files required for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients.
DoctorLINK minimises the need for patient movements while maintaining continuous contact and control over their medical situation through communication systems based on the sharing of text, audio, video, images and clinical data, made available by state-of-the-art informatics and telematics technologies.
Thanks to DoctorLINK, customers can:

  • improve post-discharge care management (e.g. chronic disease)
  • improve the coordination of the medical team and the patient’s follow-up
  • quickly choose the best therapy for the patient thanks to the follow-up guided control, thus reducing the rate of “fake admissions”
  • improve the patient’s experience; the patient will feel “closer” to the hospital environment
  • optimize patient management costs.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

DoctorLINK provides real-time services for HD-quality audio/video communication between doctors and patients through a simple tablet device, and for the collection of sensor-driven data on some of the patient’s vital signs while ensuring the safe management of such data by the doctor.
DoctorLINK provides an easy-to-use and ergonomic user experience.
DoctorLINK is remarkably configurable and open, providing many customization and expansion possibilities, making it easier to meet specific customer needs.

DoctorLINK can be integrated with information technology systems available at healthcare facilities without the need to install a dedicated data network. The healthcare facility does not need to buy specific hardware, because the system requirements regard only the browser, without other specific requirements about the OS.

DoctorLINK’s API and SDK enables not only Italtel but also other ICTs to create specific healthcare solutions, adapting its features and interfaces to the specific context of each care provider.
Combining the technological innovation of real-time communication of people (WebRTC) and things (Internet of Things), DoctorLINK is a clear example of contextual communication.
The most relevant features are:

  • HD Audio/Video call
  • High-priority Audio/Video call
  • Vital signs monitoring
  • Medical records
  • Image collection (DICOM)
  • Telemedicine: Tele-examination, Tele-expertise, Tele-healthcare cooperation, …
  • Tablet Management
  • Standard interfaces (HL7, DICOM)
  • Treatment plan management
  • Security
