SDN and NFV – Italtel and Cisco together

Italtel, leading innovative TLC products manufacturer, and Cisco, worldwide leader in IT, announce today that they are working together on emerging SDN and NFV paradigm creating valuable use cases for their customers.

NFV and SDN are complementary approaches both driving intelligence into the network: NFV allows the virtualization of network functions, while SDN enables network programmability, abstraction and dynamic management. A better network agility can be achieved, along with significant cost savings. At the same time, new revenue streams can be easily created, monetizing recurring network investments.

Italtel and Cisco, part of the most important working groups on emerging technologies (i.e. ETSI NFV, ONF, Open Daylight) can provide customers with the right expertise for a fully standard-compliant evolution towards intelligent SDN Networks.
Italtel has started the path to NFV since 2010, re-engineering its catalogue for virtual environments. Since January 2013, Italtel is member of ETSI standards group for Network Functions Virtualization.

Cisco has the groundbreaking hardware and software technology and expertise capable to chart a course according to and anticipating the market trends. Italtel and Cisco are proposing an innovative approach to Quality of Experience (QoE), leveraging Italtel proven IP Networking expertise and Cisco Open Network Environment (Cisco One Platform).

“Today QoE is needed at any time and a Smart Network is a mandatory requirement for innovative Service Providers. Real Time Communication applications (like WebRTC) can be enriched with end-to-end network visibility and Cisco ONE with its SDN capabilities provides exactly that”, said Camillo Ascione, Product Unit Network and System Integration co-Head at Italtel. “Very complementary to that – added Camillo Ascione – is the possibility to perform dynamic network configuration changes on QoE basis: network information are combined with parameters measuring customer experience and every time the path able to guarantee the best QoE is selected”.

“Partner ecosystem is vital in making SDN technology a value creation platform. We are very happy to prove with Italtel that Cisco SDN is not only available for deployment in Service Provider and Cloud environment, but it’s also ready for Partners to develop applications and create new revenue streams.” Commented Paolo Campoli, Cisco Head of SP Platform and regional CTO, EMEAR.
At Cisco Live 2014, “Intelligent Monitoring to augment QoE in SDN networks” will be shown by Italtel and Cisco at Cisco ONE booth.
