Italtel presents the 2023 sustainability report

  • Launched a Sustainability Project and strengthened Governance with the establishment of the ESG Committee.
  • Reduced energy consumption compared to 2022 by about 22% and CO2 emissions by more than 46%; almost eliminated plastic consumption.
  • Reduced the gender pay gap through a number of initiatives, including a commitment to a zero gender pay gap for new hires.

Milan, May 16, 2024 – Italtel, a multinational information & communication technology company, has reduced energy consumption by about 22% compared to 2022 and, thanks to a higher share of green energy in the total, has decreased CO2 emissions by more than 46%, amounting to a reduction of more than 770 tons of CO2 equivalent. These are the main results of the Sustainability Report 2023, presented today by the company, which this year managed to exceed the reduction target it set for 2022 (-19%), thanks to its continuous attention and commitment to monitoring the specific parameter.

In 2023, in fact, Italtel launched a “Sustainability Project” with the goal of creating a structured process involving all business activities and organizational roles so that everyone can perform their tasks in line with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) sustainability principles. A key step in this project was the creation of an ESG Committee, chaired by the CEO, whose role is to identify and promote sustainability-related initiatives and projects and to support the Board of Directors in setting ESG strategy and programs.

The company has also implemented training courses and staff awareness actions, encouraging active participation in suggesting initiatives on sustainability issues.

Italtel has chosen to adhere to the guidelines of the Green Software Foundation, which encourages the use of tools aimed at making the entire software design sustainable and has set a goal of decreasing carbon emissions both in internal processes and in terms directly perceptible to customers in the use of its products.

The share of “green revenue,” that is, generated by products and services that “have a positive environmental impact,” as defined by the FTSE Classification System, was 10 percent of total revenue (in 2022 it had been 7 percent).

“We are convinced that companies have a duty to decrease their ecological footprint and promote sustainability at the economic, social and governance levels, said Benedetto Di Salvo, CEO Italtel. We base our actions on core values that are the promotion of equality and inclusion, protection of people’s health, respect for the environment, honesty in business and harmony between professional and personal life. We believe that our stakeholders have understood and appreciate the path to sustainability we have taken so far and will continue to take.”

The report also shows that plastic consumption is almost zero, with a 92.1% reduction in consumption compared to 2022 and 99.7% over the previous five-year period.

Italtel has initiated some initiatives on DE&I, including the certification process on gender equality according to the UNI/PdR 125 guideline. At the end of the year, there were some positive results, such as the reduction in the gender pay gap for both managers and other staff and the hiring of new younger employees with total gender pay parity, as well as the increase in the percentage of women in managerial positions out of total managerial positions.

On the certification side, in 2023 Italtel acquired a major improvement in its CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project – a leading global nonprofit organization) rating on the Climate Change questionnaire by moving from level C (“Awarness” level) to level B (“Management” level).

Italtel again underwent the Ecovadis assessment and achieved a score of 58 points out of 100, far exceeding the averages of companies in our own category in all subject areas.  For the seventh consecutive year, it maintained with the highest score (three “stars”) the Legality Rating, awarded to it by the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) for the first time in 2015.
