European NANCY project: blockchain and post-quantum cryptography for secure Beyond-5G networks
Italtel is contributing to the European-funded NANCY project, which has recently introduced an innovative platform for Beyond-5G (B5G) services, designed with a quantum-resilient and privacy-first approach.
The platform integrates blockchain, post-quantum cryptography (PQC), and Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) to deliver a secure and transparent ecosystem where providers and users can exchange resources and interact while maintaining full control over their data.
At the Caldera testbed, Italtel provided a 5G testing environment based on open-source technologies, supporting both Intel and Arm processor architectures and enabled for edge computing. Within this framework, we are validating the “PQC signature for Blockchain” functionality, integrating the components developed within Work Package 5: the PQC Signature Middleware, the Java API, and the UE wallet Java.
This initiative is a key step toward the future of networking, where infrastructures must support smart cities, connected vehicles, and new digital services. Thanks to its modular and scalable architecture, NANCY offers a secure and forward-looking approach to managing trust and privacy in B5G environments.
