Italtel for a
cleaner sea

Thanks to a recent international study funded by the European Space Agency, satellites from the European Union’s Copernicus programme have detected a 20 km-long strip of plastic in the Mediterranean Sea, underlining the need for immediate action.

To address this challenge, we partnered with Ogyre, a start-up company that uses a global network of fishermen to collect marine litter. With our support, Ogyre will remove 20 kg of marine litter per month for the next six months, for a total of 120 kg.

The impact of our campaign in the SDG framework

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and planet, now and in the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which represent an urgent call to action by all countries – developed and developing – and all actors – public and private – in a global partnership. The framework, which sets specific targets for each impact area, guides our actions, enabling us to implement effective and innovative strategies to combat climate change and address the resulting social issues.

Why Ogyre?

Ogyre stands out for its innovative and sustainable approach to cleaning the seas, working with local fishermen to recover waste and promote environmental awareness. Through partnerships with coastal communities and the implementation of advanced technologies, the organisation not only removes marine litter, but also educates the public on the importance of preserving marine ecosystems

How can you contribute?

Reduce plastic use, participate in clean-up campaigns and help spread awareness about marine pollution. Choose eco-friendly products, recycle properly and encourage others to do the same. It’s a small gesture for a big change! Every action counts: join local movements, support pro-environment laws and become a positive example in your community. Contributing to a cleaner, healthier world is possible, and together we can make a difference!
