Italtel to present latest advancements on Horizon 2020 5G projects at EuCNC 2018

Developments around network slicing, Internet of Things (IoT) and Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) will be discussed

Milan, June 18, 2018 – The latest progress on three European Horizon 2020 projects focusing on 5G network infrastructure and services will be showcased at the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC) 2018 by Italtel, a leading telecommunications company in IT system integration, managed services, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and all-IP solutions.

As a participant in three of the European Commission-funded research projects, Italtel will provide updates on its work within MATILDA (Grant Agreement No. 761898), 5GCity (GA No. 761508) and 5G ESSENCE (GA No.761508), which are all part of the 5G-PPP Research and Innovation initiative.

The EuCNC 2018 conference is an excellent opportunity to showcase Italtel’s most recent advances in the 5G field, including developments on network slicing, low latency and edge computing, which will unlock new innovative services for end users across different verticals,” said Giulio Gaetani, Head of Telco and Media, Product Solutions Unit at Italtel. “By building on our expertise in the processes of businesses, we are able to create new market opportunities for a range of industries, including automotive, e-health, smart factory and media distribution and entertainment.”

Pietro Paglierani, responsible for Italtel’s work in the MATILDA project, will present, on Wednesday, June 20 at 1.30pm, the company’s recent advancements within the project in a new smart retail scenario. Ultimately, this will see the development of 5G Personal Assistants at Crowded Events (5GPACE). Italtel’s work has been developed in collaboration with its partner INCELLIGENT.

The latest advancements for the development of 5G ready services for a range of verticals, as part of the Horizon2020 5GCity project will be discussed by Antonino Albanese, Responsible for Italtel for 5GCity projects. The panel discussion, titled “Vertical Industries & Services for 5G (VIS5G) – Impact of 5G on verticals” panel, will take place on Monday 18 at 4.30 pm.

At the booth sponsored by the 5G ESSENCE project, the Italtel team will demonstrate its Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) platform – a result of its work with ATHONET and CASA SYSTEM – which provides a virtualized layer to allow the processing of content at the network edge to support 5G applications, such as live video. The demo will highlight some of the latest progress on the 5G ESSENCE project, which aims to identify ways to work on the edge of the network to support novel multimedia use cases, such as 5G at crowded events and 5G in-flight entertainment systems.

EuCNC 2018 – which will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from June 18 to June 21 – will focus on the development of communication networks and systems, as well as services and applications for 5G Wireless Systems. The conference aims to bring together researchers from across the world to showcase and demonstrate the latest results of 5G related research projects particularly those which are part of the Horizon 2020 program.
