OT Cybersecurity: more secure production infrastructure for a leader in Industrial Automation
How MADE and Italtel led a structured OT Assessment process to strengthen security, resilience, and operational continuity
Challenge
Our client, a leading global manufacturer in the automatic data acquisition and industrial automation markets, was undergoing an accelerated digital transformation. The growing connectivity of operational technology (OT) infrastructures opened up new opportunities, but at the same time exposed the infrastructure to increasingly sophisticated cyber risks.
Ensuring operational continuity, protecting sensitive data, and complying with international OT cybersecurity best practices in accordance with IEC 62443 standards was no longer a choice, but a strategic necessity.
Solution
In collaboration with MADE – Competence Center Industria 4.0, Italtel designed a tailored OT Cyber Security Assessment, combining technical analysis, governance processes, and industrial best practices.
The journey was structured into several phases:
- Governance and OT infrastructure analysis – full mapping of processes, procedures, production systems, networks, and devices to define the security baseline and identify critical areas
- Vulnerability Assessment and Risk Analysis – identification of weak points, simulation of risk scenarios, and definition of intervention priorities
- Security roadmap definition – technological measures, architectural improvements, and governance strategies to close gaps and strengthen resilience
- Alignment with IEC 62443 standards – ensuring consistency and replicability of processes according to international benchmarks
Benefits
Thanks to the joint intervention of MADE and Italtel, the client has initiated an improvement journey that will deliver benefits in terms of:
• Increased resilience – OT systems will be more protected and ready to respond to threats and failures
• Regulatory compliance – infrastructure aligned with IEC 62443, improving reliability and reputation
• Proactive incident management – advanced monitoring and rapid response protocols will reduce downtime
• Strengthened internal capabilities – processes, skills, and tools transferable to other company sites and projects
Italtel’s role
Italtel supported MADE in analysis and implementation, bringing technological and industrial expertise in OT cybersecurity, and guiding the client through a clear and structured path.
The approach combined strategic vision, advanced tools, and proven methodologies to transform a critical challenge into an opportunity for growth and resilience.
