Key resource for the operational efficiency of a Brazilian Telco operator

CHALLENGE

The management of a very complex network scenario: this is the main challenge that a major Brazilian telecommunications operator with a national coverage network is facing, offering mobile and fixed telephony services, data transmission and high-speed Internet access.

Flexibility, quality and efficiency are the keywords to guarantee a high level service.

Italtel has helped the Brazilian operator with a service-oriented communication approach, providing intelligent Service-Aware solutions.

In short, this great operator is managing the following topics:

DELIVERY
RECONFIGURATION
DOMAINS
SET-UP
TRANSPARENCY
DELAY

BENEFITS

CONTAINMENT / REDUCTION OF CAPEX AND OPEX
&
SIMPLIFICATION OF THE NETWORK AND QUALITY GUARANTEE
1
INTERCONNECTION COSTS - Costs related to interconnection agreements, routing balancing and routing policies with other national and international operators are optimized thanks to advanced routing policies and to the optimization of centralized routing that allows to have a single logical provisioning point
2
LABOR COSTS - A centralized and optimized solution reduces the operational impact in maintenance and engineering activities and network reconfiguration
3
CONTAINMENT OF INVESTMENTS related to new generation networks [ex IMS] that make migration faster, easier and with controlled costs.
4
SINGLE POINT FOR PROVISIONING - Reduction of Contact Points maintains a centralized control plan with a reproducible database. However, it is possible to consolidate the Routing, Policing and Intelligent Network functions [Smart Network]. It also presents open and standard protocols for integrations with various chain elements, for fixed and mobile networks [MSC, G-MSC, SBC, etc.]
5
SMART FOOT-PRINT & DECOMMISSIONING - can help operators reduce Foot-Print in critical operating sites that consider a "network consolidation approach", replacing legacy platform and obsolete products 100% virtualized solutions - Definitive network withdrawal, Class4 consolidation, etc.
6
MIGRATION ON ALL-IP ARCHITECTURE - Reduction of network anchor points with consequent reduction of call-setup times, replacement of legacy protocols, call setup timer, MOS, etc.

SOLUTION

For an operator that has multimedia communication networks, fixed or mobile, characterized by a very wide territorial coverage, having a Centralized Routing Engine (CRE) allows to simplify the management of the network.

Today few companies are able to provide this type of solution and the operator has chosen Italtel for its i-RPS.

The main features are cost-based routing [LCR], quality [QBR] and volume [VBR].

These are features that are not implemented by traditional routing solutions.

i-RPS was the helm that led the operator’s network mainly to ensure:

  • ITX Traffic Delivery Accuracy
  • Centralized Intelligent Layer that provides Simplified Signaling Transport and E2E Media Transport
  • Network Services Integration

Here are the 5 untied cornerstones of the solution:

  1. call delivery based on Local Area using advanced routing policy
  2. Selection of the best transport carrier based on Least Cost Rotuing logics
  3. Brokering for Network Portability for an external SCP
  4. SIP-I solution for international LCR / VBR calls
  5. Enhanced LCR for national interconnection with Local Operators (OLOs) – SIP-I connections with Gateway-MSC

Italtel has provided a wide solution that offers communication services ready for IMS and Web-Aware, able to interact with the “legacy” solutions already present in the Brazilian operator’s network.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Italtel has installed 8 i-RPS in the heart of the Brazilian operator’s large network to expand its transit network, guaranteeing:

  • up to 200 INAP transitions per second
  • up to 9000 SIP-I cps in 6 nodes (migration ongoing)

i-RPS handles all international traffic in SIP or SIP-I.

i-RPS is interconnected in SIP / SIP-I with the i-MCS of Italtel and with the MSS Ericsson and SBC Oracle.

It also interacts in INAP over M3UA with Italtel i-MCS, with Oracle PTS and ATS-Mahindra.
