Safer telco services for SMEs


Cybersecurity has become a strategic factor of any organization, large or small, public or private. Today, no company can be considered exempt from the risks related to IT security. The increase in attacks requires companies to ensure the continuity of their business, paying particular attention to the protection of corporate assets and data against increasingly sophisticated and potentially harmful threats.

It is in this context that a large Italian company operating in the telecommunications sector, with a market share of about 30% in the Italian mobile telephony market, carries out a large project to strengthen cybersecurity for the services offered to companies and the public administration.

The challenge of the telco operator is to enrich its offer of services on the SME market and at the same time increase the level of protection of end customers. In detail, it is about:

  • protect the internet browsing of its SME customers
  • identify and classify malicious websites
  • monitor and document the various types of attacks.

For the realization of the project, the provider relies on Italtel, thanks to its vast experience and expertise in the field of cybersecurity.


The proposal studied by Italtel for the important telco operator is based on the Cisco solution for cyber security Cisco Umbrella. This choice provides great flexibility, as it combines multiple security features into a single solution, so you can extend protection to devices, remote users, and distributed locations anywhere.

The solution provided by Cisco Umbrella is completely in the cloud for over 20K SMEs.

Performance concerns the protection of web browsing from malware attacks, Command & Control Callbacks and Phishing.

Italtel also produces:

  • the monthly monitoring and reporting service managed by the SOC
  • the main measurement and control actions: number of blocked DNS requests, categorization of blocked requests (prevention and containment), Top Domains under observation for threats found


Italtel has carried out all the system integration activities for the activation and setup of the cloud solution and guarantees the Managed Services through its SOC active in the Settimo Milanese headquarters.
