Telefónica Germany accelerates voice core network transformation with Italtel’s cloud routing platform
As part of its broader network modernization strategy, Telefónica Germany is evolving its voice core routing environment into a cloud architecture designed to increase agility, automation and enhance time to market. The transformation creates a scalable foundation for future service innovation while supporting sustainability and long-term traffic growth across fixed and mobile networks.
Düsseldorf/Milan, October 21, 2026 – Italtel, an Italian multinational and leader in advanced technology solutions, announces it is supporting Telefonica Germany, one of Germany’s leading telecommunications operators, in a strategic evolution of its core network.
Telefónica Germany is transforming its voice core routing environment into a cloud architecture, enhancing scalability, automation and operational efficiency while creating a future-ready foundation for service innovation and traffic growth.
In this transformation journey, the initiative to evolve the Italtel Routing and Policy System (i-RPS) onto the most advanced platform is an important milestone, enabling a more agile, automated and scalable network environment capable of supporting future service innovation for Telefonica Germany’s converged fixed and mobile network.
Italtel decided to collaborate for this project with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, using Red Hat OpenShift to deliver a transformed routing intelligence in Telefónica Germany’s voice network. The solution provided by Italtel has enabled the rapid delivery of a fully integrated, next-generation virtual transit solution specifically designed to meet the needs of Telefonica Germany for fixed, mobile and wholesale traffic interconnection.
The project is already delivering tangible operational benefits, including:
- enhanced scalability and flexibility, with the ability to allocate resources according to network traffic and operational needs,
