How the Working Student Program shaped Rimandeep Singh’s career

What started with curiosity became a career built on trust, innovation and real engineering challenges.

A passion for technology shaped by curiosity and continuous learning

From an early age, I was drawn to understanding how systems work, how they communicate, how they fail, and how they can be made better. That curiosity shaped everything that followed: my academic choices, my career path, and ultimately my journey to Italtel.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and Mechatronics in Poland, where I developed a strong technical foundation in software engineering, cloud computing, networking, and robotics. The multidisciplinary program taught me to think across boundaries, connecting hardware with software and infrastructure with code. I later moved to Germany to pursue a Master’s degree in Information Engineering and Computer Science, further strengthening my focus on cloud technologies, automation, and AI-driven systems.

Early steps and first professional experiences

My professional journey began in India, where I worked as an IT Instructor and Support Engineer. It was my first real exposure to operational environments, the kind of work that teaches you very quickly how systems behave under pressure.

After relocating to Poland for my studies, I joined Kyndryl Global Services as a Junior Cloud Engineer, working on cloud infrastructure and hybrid system environments. That role gave me hands-on experience with enterprise-scale reliability and monitoring and confirmed that cloud engineering was the direction I wanted to pursue.

Joining Italtel as a Working Student

When I moved to Germany for my Master’s degree, I started looking for a role where I could apply my knowledge of cloud technologies and automation in a real engineering environment. I discovered the Working Student opportunity at Italtel, and it immediately stood out to me. The combination of infrastructure, DevOps, and automation was exactly the area in which I wanted to grow.

From the beginning, I found myself in a collaborative and technically engaging environment. I worked closely with experienced network engineers and system administrators, contributing to real projects instead of simply observing from the sidelines. That hands-on involvement made a significant difference.

Growing through real engineering impact

One of the most meaningful early projects I worked on was designing and developing an internal automation configuration platform. That project taught me what it feels like to deliver something that genuinely matters. Seeing a solution you built go into production and change how a team works every day is a very different experience from academic projects.

Over time, my work expanded further into automation engineering and into the early design of AI-driven systems including a pipeline for automated network configuration validation and failure remediation that combines CI/CD, and other stacks.

From Working Student to Network Data Professional

Moving from Working Student to a full-time Network Data Analyst, with a strong focus on Automation Engineering, felt like a natural next step. Each project was built on the previous one, and my responsibilities grew along the way.

What made the transition meaningful was not only the new title, but also the confidence that the program had prepared me for the challenges ahead. It gave me a strong foundation to build on and connected me with a team I already trusted and felt part of.

Life at Italtel

What I appreciate most about working at Italtel is the culture of trust and ownership. You are given real problems to solve, and the autonomy to solve them well. The team is international and technically diverse, which means you are constantly learning from people with different backgrounds and perspectives.

Italtel hybrid working model has also been an important part of my experience it provides the flexibility to work effectively while still preserving the in-person collaboration that matters most on complex engineering challenges.

Looking ahead

I want to continue deepening my expertise in cloud architecture, automation, and AI-driven infrastructure systems. The field of intelligent, agent-based systems is evolving rapidly, and I find it genuinely exciting to be building in that space combining cloud engineering, automation, and AI in ways that solve real operational problems.

A message for future Working Students

My advice to anyone considering the Working Student Program is simple: come with curiosity and a willingness to contribute beyond what is expected of you. The program gives you real engineering experience not a simulation of it. If you engage fully, it will shape both your skills and your confidence in ways that will carry forward throughout your career.
