Sharing experiences to build increasingly strategic sustainability
The transition toward sustainable business models requires new skills, collaboration among different stakeholders, and the ability to transform data into strategic decisions.
Engaging with the ESG community is a key pillar of our journey. For this reason, we were pleased to take part in the “Sustainability Manager 360” program organized by Assolombarda Servizi, contributing to Module 9 – ESG Case History through the presentation delivered by our colleague Rosella Rossi, Internal Audit & Compliance.
Her contribution offered an overview of Italtel’s identity and the guiding principles behind our commitment: enabling our customers, through high-performance technological solutions, to achieve their sustainability goals, while continuously improving our own environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
Our ESG journey: from vision to concrete results
Rosella retraced the key milestones of our ESG journey, which began in 2015, when a major French customer required its partners to obtain EcoVadis certification. This request led to the creation of an initial cross-functional team—involving Facility Management, Procurement, HR, and Internal Audit & Compliance—aimed at developing a structured and integrated sustainability approach.
Over time, the team expanded to include colleagues in Italy and abroad, and the Italtel Group’s sustainability path was strengthened through key initiatives and measurable results:
-
2019 – Publication of the first Group Sustainability Report, inspired by GRI standards
-
2020 – Launch of the Plastic Free project at the Palermo site, later extended to all Italian locations
-
2021 – Introduction of 50% smart working, supported by a company agreement promoting well-being, flexibility, and work-life balance
-
2022 – First Open-ES assessment and first GHG emissions inventory
-
2023 – Establishment of the ESG Committee and an 83.3% reduction in Scope 1 CO₂ emissions at Italian sites compared to 2020
-
2024 – Achievement of Gender Equality Certification, reflecting ongoing DE&I commitment
-
First CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) assessment at Group level
-
91.8% reduction in Scope 2 CO₂ emissions at Italian sites compared to 2020
-
76.2% renewable energy consumption achieved at Group level
-
Sustainability as a driver of competitiveness
The dialogue with ESG professionals confirmed that sustainability is not merely a regulatory or reputational requirement, but a true driver of competitiveness and innovation.
We will continue to strengthen this approach, as sustainability is a shared value for our people, our customers, and all our stakeholders.
