Digital infrastructure management in public hospitals in Lombardy, Italy
Challenge
Digital infrastructures, IT services, cybersecurity, and data centers are crucial components for the operations of hospital facilities, particularly during this time of healthcare emergency. The hospital, like a large enterprise, has its own communications facilities that connect wards, enable data exchange (from e-mail to medical records), manage audio and video conferencing services, and must ensure strict levels of data protection and cybersecurity.
Digital infrastructures and ICT services are crucial aspects for the activity of a hospital facility. Such infrastructures and services must be continuously monitored, managed and evolved in terms of technology and security. The choice of outsourcing their management allows a better control and a constant technological evolution.
Niguarda, Istituto dei Tumori and Centro Gaetano Pini hospitals in Milan have selected Italtel to manage these digital IT services and focus on the healthcare services to be provided to citizens.
The healthcare emergency from Covid-19 confirmed the importance of digital infrastructures for the operations of complex organizations, such as hospitals. In this critical period for the Healthcare System because of the pandemic, it is also crucial for hospitals to be able to rely on the support of partners who have the appropriate IT and cybersecurity skills to ensure the best management of digital infrastructures and to plan the evolution towards the most innovative technologies necessary to improve the effectiveness and the quality of the services provided.
- ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda has chosen to outsource to Italtel, through a five-year Framework Agreement, the management services of multivendor infrastructures of telephony-data-Unified Collaboration-Security and NOC (Network Operation Center)
- Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori and ASST Centro Specialistico Ortopedico Traumatologico G. Pini have already joined this agreement
- There are other 9 organizations that could progressively activate the services.
Solution
With its technical staff, Italtel implements complex interventions on the field, such as infrastructural evolutions, without any discontinuity on ASST activities. It offers innovative solutions – for example in cloud logic – and operates in terms of cybersecurity to identify, mitigate and prevent risks.
The services managed by Italtel are based on the innovative nature of the technological solutions offered, on the ability to implement best practices in providing services with up-to-date products and on the willingness to tackle projects and experimental use cases in line with the evolutionary trends of ICT and the latest technological innovations. All of this with a perspective of full compliance with standards and regulations and with a particular attention to security policies, which, nowadays, is a crucial factor.
Cooperating with the Health Institutions and other suppliers involved in order to provide added value, Italtel implements an integrated and synergistic service delivery model based on the continuous monitoring of contractual indicators and related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
The services are provided by Italtel’s specialized personnel who operate on site at the hospital facilities with the support of iNOC, the Italtel center of excellence for intelligent monitoring activities, performance analysis, service recovery and trend analysis for the definition of strategies for the evolution of digital infrastructures.
